Studio

This is the current state of the studio.  The room is practically finished.  It has been insulated, weather proofed and battened out in preparation for the weathering steel to go on to the back of the door.  The steel will sit flush with the cladding on the external walls and will give a seamless finish.

This room has a glass floor (with a white film between two layers of toughened glass) and a clear glass ceiling.  The wall covering is birch plywood.

Shelving

Floating shelves are being made for the alcoves downstairs

The shelves will be painted the same colour as the walls.

Putting shelving in these small alcoves makes good use of dead space.

We are getting a kitchen!!!!

Yesterday the kitchen installation was started.

This picture shows the kitchen workspace.  There is no kickboard in order to give cleaner lines.  The kitchen is made of 2 materials sprayed black mdf and oak veneer panels.

The doors in the kitchen will open on an electrical power source. When you want to open a press door you push it and the electrical current charge goes through the door and it opens slowly without human assistance!
The counter top will be made of black river washed granite.

Photos from today

Today the concrete floor has been coloured and sealed.

Ciaran visited the house after work today and took a few pictures.

Two layers of sealant and hardener has been put on the concrete floor.  One more to go!

Current state of the front garden - preparing before the paving stones are laid. The paving stones will be to the right of the front door.

There will be concrete leading up to the front door.  Metal lines will be visible in the concrete in an etching designed by Ciaran.

Saturday 2 June 2012

Bench seat in the front room is being constructed.
Steel frame will be covered in oak and then custom upholstered.

Canopy above the front door is being rebuilt. The original canopy was in such a state of disrepair that it needed to be removed.  Ciaran considered leaving it off but decided to build a new one and reinstall it as he felt it would do a good job of protecting us from the rain as we were opening the door.

Glass has been fitted in the door out to the tiny courtyard. In the above picture you can look right through to the back of the house and see the glass door in the below picture.  Lights have been fitted that will illuminate this area to the back of the house and it will make a nice feature at night as you enter the house.  The light will be welcoming and will draw you in to the house.

Art in the Bank of Ireland!

Bank of Ireland in Terenure are having an art display this week.  Ciaran was asked to display some of this pictures.  Unfortunately most of his work is in storage at the moment and he hasn't been painting at all in the last year due to all his time being taken up with the house build.

He sent over one picture "The Player" to go on display.  If you are out and about in Terenure feel free to call in to the bank to see it!

The bank was also having an art raffle and they were looking for donations of pictures for this.  Ciaran donated a picture painted by his father, Brain McCoy for the raffle.  The raffle is in aid of the Make a Wish Foundation.
