Sash windows!

The up and down sash windows are in, balanced and are fully working. Tomorrow they will be sealed and insulated on the inside. The shutter boxes will then be returned to where they were originally fitted.

Below is the window in the back bedroom.

This is the second bedroom window pictured again 

from the inside of the house.

The sash windows are only going into the older part of the house.  The new part of the house (the extension) will have powder coated treble-glazed aluminium windows in a dark grey colour.

It's progressing!

            The flat roof on the new extension has been insulated.

   Here you can see the waterproof membrane and the hidden gutter.

Sash Windows!

The Sash windows have been brought down on to site.  

They will be fitted tomorrow.  The box window frames will have to be rebuilt and then the windows will be installed.  A specialist company will be fitting the windows and making them workable up and down sash windows using ropes and weights as balances.

Let there be light!

Today, Ciaran met with Lighting Consultant Patrick Kerr of Shadowlight to discuss the light switch arrangement.  He also impulsively(!) bought 2 small Lenticchia lights by Peter Zumthor.

They will be positioned above lockers in the master bedroom as floating reading lamps.

Architectural salvage!

Today we went on the hunt for bricks.  We had a wander around an Architectural Salvage yard in Kingswood.  I wasn't too interested in the bricks but I did see an interesting old Dublin lamp that would look great in the front garden!

Above pic is of the salvage yard worker pulling some salvaged bricks so that Ciaran could match them to bricks that are needed for the front elevation.

Site visit - 13th Jan 2012

New Year and we are back in Ireland!

We arrived back in to Dublin at 7am, after two fantastic flights with Delta Airlines, yesterday morning.  After a short sleep we headed over to view developments.  A lot had been done while we were holidaying in the States and Ciaran was pleased with progress.  We stayed on site for about an hour while Ciaran answered questions from the foreman and also explained parts of the build.  Today he was straight in to work to do further procurement and also to draw up further plans to assist the builders.

Gone fishing!

Yesterday we went on a half day fishing trip on the Tortugua IV.  The weather was perfect and we even managed to catch dinner! Today is our last day so when I get home I will begin to blog again about the house and get a few pics up of the building work.  

I'm sure lots has been done in the last 3 weeks - I'm looking forward to seeing the progress!!
