Exotic East

My younger sister moved to Oman in January to work as a Flight Attendant (or Cabin Crew which I believe is the correct title). She has been flying between Oman and places like Pakistan and India. Yesterday, however, she went on her first layover. She is currently in Colombo which is the capital city of Sri Lanka. I can only imagine what it is like!!!

Hopefully she will send me more pics today. She "What's app-ed" me a picture of the rashers she was eating for breakfast - she hasn't eaten pork since she moved to Oman!!!

Serious cuteness alert!

How cute are these three sisters after their grooming session?!

These cuties are owned by my friends in the States. I love getting pictures of the dogs sent to me - perks my day right up!

They are adorable Yorkies - one being teeny tiny, a tea cup Yorky.

Brekkie by the canal

It was sunny this morning. We bought breakfast in Donnybrook Fair and ate by the canal. Bliss!

I should mention that DF can normally be pricey but these breakfast baps & coffee were a special price of €4. Sitting out eating by the canal was priceless!!

Fade Street Social

We were meant to go to Dylan McGrath's Fade Street Social a few weeks ago. However our friend who was organizing the night couldn't get a reservation so we ended up eating elsewhere.

Today was such a nice day we cycled in to town (me on my bike, Ciaran on a Dublin Bike). After sauntering around for a bit we went to Fade Street Social for lunch. We ate at the bar which was buzzy and fun. It was tapas in this part of the restaurant (the Gastro bar) - the restaurant proper opens later. I was disappointed to hear that they were out of both lobster (there was a lobster hot dog that sounded great) and cod - a busy weekend obviously!

Some of the pics below are of what we had. Ciaran ordered what was called a burger on the menu but when it came out it was really a slider - he wasn't surprised as for €9 it was all he was expecting. However, I do think they should consider amending the menu.

We also had Chinese pork belly with peanut brittle - this was way too fatty - I wouldn't order it again even though the flavours were good.

I had a charred tuna loin. Amazing! Cooked perfectly rare with what I thought was artichoke (I think) and dill.

Ciaran had chicken with caramelised onions with parma ham. And we also ordered skinny fries with onion purée and Parmesan truffles.

The chips were disapointingly frozen chips.

We had a carafe of Malbec which was very tasty and made a good pairing with the food.

I'll let the pictures do further talking.

Shopping heaven

I briefly met a friend in the city yesterday. She had just over an hour free between finishing work and then making a hospital visit. We made a flying visit to 3 shops.

First stop was "Kilkenny Design". I had told my friend that I was looking for earrings and she said she had seen the perfect pair in here. They were perfect so I bought them in two different colours. They are crystal earrings with a small drop and I chose one in pink and the other in nude/beige. I also bought a bag here.

Next we went to Brown Thomas. In the Waterford Crystal dept we were shown a new "Mixology" range which is exclusive to BTs for 6 weeks. It is mix and match coloured etched glassware. We remarked how Great Gatsbyesque it was!!! At this point I should mention that I was on my bike so I was not going to buy glasses - never mind the price of these lovely items!

We then made our way across to Marks and Spencer's. After buying a Get Well card, my friend had to dash off. I bought a few items for dinner in the food hall from the Dine in for 2 range. I then had to leave town as all that I bought barely fitted in to the panniers on my bike!!!

Have a look on www.kilkennyshop.com for lots of lovely Irish and other beautifully designed pieces.

Bank Holiday

Monday is a Bank Holiday in Ireland - is it in your country too?

Bank Holidays are always on Mondays here, I don't know whether that is the same in most countries.

We had breakfast in The Farm on Upper Leeson Street. The food was great but it was way too cold (10 degrees celcius) to be sitting outside.

It did warm up during the day and as the sun went down at 7pm we sat in the front garden enjoying the setting sun.

Wiggly things!

There was a lot of talk of snakes here. My friends in the States sent a video of a snake they found in the skimmer of their pool (yuck!)

This got me thinking of worm composting. I looked on YouTube for info about wormeries. It was all very interesting but unfortunately made for some very strange dreams. Probably best to not be looking at this type of thing just before bed!
