Packing away Christmas

Took all the ornaments off my tree and packed them away.  I got these really handy decoration storage boxes in Dunne Stores just before Christmas.  They are so convenient - I wish I bought another one.

Next year if we are going away for Christmas I may not put up a tree......I'll see!

Detox after my holidays

Arrived home this morning and started my post holiday detox.  After all the lovely meals I had on hols I now have a few lbs to lose.

I made a big pot of green soup to have for my dinner. The soup is made of butternut squash, parsnip, caramelized onions, garlic, kale and cabbage.  it looks a bit revolting but i have to tell that it doesn't taste too bad!

I'll keep you posted on my progress!

Southernmost Point

Key West is the Southernmost city in the USA.  It is closer to Cuba than Miami.

Here is a picture of the Southernmost Point marked by a giant buoy.  It was very busy when I took the photo as the Ragnar Relay racers had just arrived in town.

Bike Town

Key West is what I would consider a bike friendly town.

Here are a few photos of cyclists in KW.  I think there is something very timeless about people on bikes.

Homeward bound.....

We had a lovely last KW meal in Santiago's Bodega.

Sadly we get on the road for Fort Lauderdale tomorrow morning. After spending a night there we then fly back to Ireland on Monday and will arrive in to Dublin on Tuesday morning.  We are sad to leave the island after a wonderful holiday.

Yard Sales

Every Friday, in The Citizen, a map and listings of all of the yard sales that are taking place on the island, is published.

Yard sales are not commonly held in Ireland so we like to cycle around and have a looksee at what is being sold.  Most stuff on offer is pure rubbish but I did buy my bike at a yard sale 2 years ago.  It was only 15 dollars and I got a new chain and the brakes fixed for 80 bucks in a bike shop - it's a great bike!

Paradise!!

Not a cloud in the sky and it is expected to hit 80 today!
Pure bliss!
If you are thinking of visiting Key West, Florida the most cost efficient way is to rent a private home - particularly if you are travelling in a group or are with family.  Many homes for rent are also pet friendly in case you want to bring along your pets!

We would love to bring Bones our Shi Tzu with us but unfortunately Irish quarantine laws are too strict at this time.
