Origami

Origami is a marvelous little sushi restaurant located in Duval Square.  We sat at the bar and Ciaran ordered a beer.

While we were waiting to order we were given an amuse bouche of a cucumber salad with the most lovely dressing.

Ciaran ordered a dinner box while I ordered some shrimp tempura sushi, spicy tuna sushi and some tuna sashimi along with some steamed pork gyoza.  I didn't realize how much food that was going to be!!

We split and shared all of the food.  Afterwards we went to CVs and bought peanut butter ice cream for dessert back at home.  This was such a treat - first time I had tasted peanut butter ice cream as you can not get it in Ireland!

Sarabeth's

Sunday night is fried chicken night in Sarabeth's.  Chicken, that was Soaked in buttermilk for 24 hrs, just about everyone in the restaurant was eating it!

We ordered a Chilean Merlot which was very good or "mealy" as I described it to Ciaran!

For starters, we split the calamari.

For main Ciaran had the chicken (no surprise!) while I had the meatloaf (no comparison with meatloaf in 7 Fish)

All followed by a very rich "real old fashioned" chocolate pudding - it was so good!!

Sarabeths is consistently good.  Ciaran is a big fan!

Santiago's Bodega

Last nights we ate in Santiago's Bodega which is on Petronia Street in the Bahama Village.  It's a tapas restaurant with lots of small plate options.

We chose a French Bordeaux to drink and started with a blue cheese wedge salad.

Followed by a cheese plate (I was all cheesed out at this point).

Then we had prosciutto wrapped dates stuffed with cheese - I love these!!

We also chose the tuna tartar

And the gorgeous cherry & hoi sin glazed ribs.

We then followed with the beef tenderloin and shrimp & chorizo on a skewer.  At this point I was so full I couldn't even finish the shrimp!!!

But when got home I realized I had room for dessert so we called to Flamingo Crossing for some French Chocolate @ Oreo Cookie ice cream.  Yum!

New jewellery!

I got this great hand crafted necklace & earrings in the Wine Cottage on Eaton Street.  They are made from Grey Goose vodka bottles!!

Solo American Bistro

Solo American Bistro was recommended to us by two different people so we chose to go there for food before the Green Parrot on our 3rd night.

It's a newly opened place.  We found it large and soulless.  It had fake brick on the walls - we did not like the decor.

We ordered Tuna Tartare, Conch Fritters, crab cakes & flat bread.

Deep fried conch fritters which were ok.

Crab cakes which were passable.

Tuna Tartare was nice.

Tasty flat bread - just like thin & crispy pizza.

Ciaran had one of their special brew beers.

I had a Caipirosca.  The cocktails were the biggest disappointment.  Short cuts are taken to make them.  My cocktail was made with sugar syrup & lime juice (from squeezy bottles) with half a lime and a quick muddle.  The ice was not even correctly crushed.  Very sloppy service for somewhere that seems to be marketing themselves as a sophisticated cocktail joint.

Yoga on the beach

To start the day we are doing Yoga on the beach at 8am.  I've done Bikram yoga in Key West but am really looking forward to doing Yoga outside in nature.

Here's the view of the pine trees I had as I lay on my mat.

Such a nice setting for yoga!

I then had breakfast of pineapple coconut water & sunflower seeds.
What a great way to start the day!!

7 Fish

7 Fish is one of our favourite restaurants in KW.  Over the past few years we have generally eaten here on our last night (on the advice of our friends from PA).

Yesterday evening we booked to sit at the teeny bar that seats 4.  We were served by Fred who revealed that he owns Flaming Buoy with his partner.  How coincidental - we visited there the previous night!

We started with a Warm Grouper Sushi Roll to start.  These were extremely tasty but Ciaran felt like it was a mind game - warm sushi.

For main I had their special Hog Fish Curry.  Light, fragrant, gingery with perfectly cooked vegetables.

Ciaran ordered the excellent meatloaf.  A huge portion of Mom Food!!

For dessert we split the most amazing gooey brownie with Flamingo Crossing Tahaitian Vanilla Ice cream.

There were other dessert options including a sweet potato pie and some type of strawberry pie that we couldn't even consider as they had walnuts in the crust.  I am allergic to walnuts - quite severely so I don't like to sit near anyone eating walnuts and I would also be afraid to kiss Ciaran if he had eaten them.

We had a tasty Chilean Merlot with dinner.  The food in 7 Fish is spot on and consistently good.  My only gripe would be that I don't like their black plates.  I'd love if they changed to white - but I think this is a minor criticism!!
