Ice cream!

I scream. You scream. We all scream for ice cream!

This is the Dairy Queen in Key West. It's an old building, probably from the 1950's - you are not allowed lean on the glass because of the age of the building!
We do not have Dairy Queen in Ireland so we always go here at least once when we are in town.

Edit after seeing below comment by I wonder who?!! Key Lime Pie is the most famous dessert in the keys - and a slice of frozen pie dipped in chocolate is highly recommended by my friends, however I have yet to taste it. For me the ice cream from Flamingo Crossing at Virginia & Duval is the best. Last night we got ice cream from Mathisons - the mint choc chip tasted like toothpaste. Yuck! PS. We saw the McDonalds in KW for the first time the other day. We didn't eat there......we went to 5 Guys! ;-)

Toot toot! Train is coming to town!

This is the famous Key West Conch Train.  It has been carting tourists around the island since the 1970's!

It passes by our cottage and I love waving at everyone on board!

2013 is here!

What a great NYE celebration we had last night!

We had a 9.30 dinner reservation at Salute the Beach.  We arrived at about 9.15pm and they were able to seat us immediately.  It was a set menu for the night that was in it.  Looking out on to the beach we sat and sipped a glass of champagne - what an amazing setting.  At 10pm, there was a firework display provided by the Southernmost Hotel.  We had a birdseye view of the fireworks!

After dinner we moved to the bar to enjoy ambiance and listen to the live music. Come 11.30 or so we cycled home to ring in the New Year alone on our balcony which is what's have done for the past few years.

Here's to 2013, let's hope it's a good one!!!

A giant conch shell!

This the giant conch shell that is featured in the movie "The Key West Picture Show".  The Key West High School is now where it calls home.

We had two lovely dinners over the past nights.  Two days ago we ate in the Flaming Buoy Fillet Co.  Totally delicious and the owner was so friendly and hospitable.

Last night we had the famous Sunday Fried Chicken in Sarabeth's.   We Will be dreaming about it for the next year.  We followed our meal by meeting friend for a drink in the famous hidden bar the Chart Room Bar. We had fun!

7 Fish

No we didn't eat 7 fish but we did visit 7 Fish for dinner yesterday.

It is peak season here in Key West and VERY busy so we were only able to reserve a table at 9.15pm.

Everything we ordered was great but in particular the brownie we enjoyed for dessert along with Baby's Coffee was amazing!
